How much air do I put in my tires?
(2010-11-16 15:10:06) 1. Says: I have a 94 Ford Explorer and the tire sidewall says 50 psi max. Do I have to put that much air in them? Now that its winter do I have to put more air in them?2. Says: Ford Explorers are heavy old beasts. 32 psi is way too soft. If the tires are marked with a maximum pressure of 50 lbs, inflate half way between the numbing soft pressure on the drivers door jam and maximum pressure posted on the tires. When Ford built your Explorer there were no tires in your size that could be inflated to 50 psi. The Ford Motor Company wanted the truck to ride as comfortably as possible, therefore the ridiculously soft recommended pressure.
The softer the tires the hotter they get do to the wicked sidewall flex. More inflation pressure will buy IOU better fuel economy.3. Says: In your driver side door jam it says what the recommended air pressure. it should be about 35 psi. if you keep track of the air pressure, you wont need to add more air.4. Says: 1. No
