1. nickcool Says: i have a 1993 celica 2.2l 2dr gt. it has now 196000 miles on it. i got the car for 500 bucks with 189989 miles on it. i want to make it a little faster a cheap way also. i got the res choped off and a 3a racing muffler on it. its a 5spd standard. anyone know how to make it go faster???
2. Terrence B Says: Like the other answers, real power can't be achieved for cheap. At 196,000 miles I wouldn't be looking at getting more power out of it unless you want it to start having problems. Those are great cars and the 5S-FE is without a doubt one of the best engines on the planet, but that's a lot of miles to be looking at adding go fast stuff. You have to turbo that car to get any power. Bolt on stuff will give you maybe 15 hp- at least 25 is what is needed to get noticeable power. That engine isn't designed for it. Therefore you either have to have that engine built with forged internals and add a turbo or swap it for a 3S-GTE turbo engine. My take is live with it the way it is. Those cars can easily get 400,000 miles if you just maintain them. Celicas have never been high powered cars (except the turbo models) but they are still sporty enough and that 5S-FE has good torque. Add to the fact this is one of the most dependable sporty cars ever built (plus that vintage is my favorite in the looks department), and you'll learn to appreciate it more.
3. god007md Says: Turbo is the only way you'll get any real HP.

Only way to get significant HP w/o that is with a webcams 294 regrind

It'll run around $800 and give you an extra 15 peak HP with about a 10hp gain throughout the band.

ADD: As another answer stated below you could drop in the 3S-GE or GTE engine. That is a straight drop in engine because you have the 2.2L so the motor mounts will line up correctly.

If you need information on the swap go to www.6gc.net. You'll be able to find all the information you need for it there.

"Cheap, Reliable, Fast"
If you're on a budget.... pick two.
4. Wedge Says: If it's the 2.2l then it's probably the 5S-FE motor... lucky for you some of the Celicas of that particular generation(5th) came equipped with the 3S-GTE motor. If you're looking for a drop in turbo motor designed for a Celica, that's it right there. I don't know the details of that swap though, as I've never done it.
5. Robert Says: Try going downhill.
