Mr. Fleetwood Says: I have a 1990 Cadillac Fleetwood (Front Wheel Drive) and was wondering if i could swap my engine (4.5 liter v8 port fuel injection) for that of a later model Cadillac (rear wheel drive) engine or other gm (rear wheel drive) engine. If so, how could I? Any suggestions or solutions would be greatly appreciated, Thank You

Joseph Says: what you will need to be concerned with is does the tranny bolt pattern line up to the new block and do the motor mounts go in the same place. front or rear wheel drive makes no real difference that would just be the configuration of the motor/tranny combo. example the 3.8 in some cars it's fwd and in others it's rwd, same motor different tranny

Mr. Fleetwood Says: Thanks, i'm not very familiar with front wheel drive setups but that was great info.

couldbe Says: The 4.5 liter is connected to a transaxle which is essentially is the entire drive train. It would cost more in trouble than a 1990 Caddy could possibly be worth.

Do the Math Says: Just cheaper to buy the other car.
