Volkswagen 2002 Jetta GLS Recall?

(2010-11-22 15:10:13) 1. M Says: I purchased a used Jetta GLS two years ago without realizing that it hadn't been serviced for a recall. Since the car didn't have any issues, I neglected to look into any safety recalls that might affect the car.

Just recently my ABS light popped on. After some research, there appears to be a recall in January of 2002 regarding the issue. Further research tells me that there is a statute of limitations on these issues, and that in most places it's eight years. Currently, it's almost nine years after the recall was issued.

Since I'm out of the statute of limitations, will Volkswagen service my vehicle? A lot of companies have good will programs where they'll still do the work outside of the time limits.

I had a Nissan that was well outside original warranty but the airbag light came on. I took it to the dealer and even though there was no Service Bulletin, It was corrected at no cost.
