zuko Says: The owner's manual states that I need to have automatic transmission fluid replacement at 50,000 miles. How come the dealership service dept. would recommend it replaced at 30,000 miles? Would it affect my extended warranty if I do it at 50,000 miles?

Kenny D Says: You only need to follow the scheduled maintenance guide in the owner's manual. That is what is prescribed by the manufacturer to assure warranty coverage. I just checked the maintenance guide for the 2006 Equinox and automatic transmission fluid change at 50,000 mile intervals is what is recommended for severe service (i.e. mostly city driving in heavy traffic, frequent driving in hilly or mountainous terrain, frequent trailer towing, etc.) and automatic transmission fluid change at 100,000 mile intervals is what is recommended for normal service (i.e. mostly suburban and highway driving). But maybe the dealership service department noticed that the transmission fluid is a burnished color, in which case, it should be changed, even at 30,000 miles if it is burnished. I have old-school ways though when is comes to oil and fluid changes. I change my oil every 3,000 miles and my transmission fluid, power steering fluid, differential fluid, and brake fluid every 30,000 miles, But that aside, the answer to your question is no, it will not affect your warranty if you change your transmission fluid every 50,000 miles because that is the severe service interval which is recommended in the manufacturer's scheduled maintenance guide for the 2006 Equinox.
