What can I do to stop a serpentine belt from squealing?
(2010-11-24 15:10:12) 1. Says: I have an 1989 F-150 with a V-8. I just replaced the belt and idler pulley because it was squealing. Less than a month and it's doing it again! I have tried spraying the belt with WD-40 and PB Blaster. it works for about 3 miles and it starts again. Any ideas to stop it?2. Says: if the tension er is failing the belt will squeal on a pulley. that tension er should be replaced every so often, like every 50,000 miles as an example. you probably have about 250,000 plus right? it give that a shot, they are less than $100, 70.00 dollars here.3. Says: wow, you drive less than i do then. 4. Says: When you take the belt off to replace it with whichever belt you want, if you even change it, but turn EVERY pulley that the belt goes around, either on the inside or outside of belt. EVERY thing that touches the belt should be checked for any type of drag.5. Says: Check the pulleys on all of the devices driven by this belt: alternator, power steering pump, A/C compressor, etc. Could be that one device's pulley bearing has gone bad.6. Says: Go get a gator belt made by gates it has different grooves then the normal bets and wont make noise anymore. They work.7. Says: you probably have the belt on too tight8. Says: need to fix the tensionalignment Tag: What can I do to stop a serpentine belt from squealing?
