What is a core charge on a engine?

1. Erika S Says: What is a core charge for an engine. Most of the places I called says 4000 for engine 200 shipping and have to add 650 for core? What does that mean (CORE)my repair shop told me they would swap out parts if needed from my broken engine to the used one I get. Could that also mean that I could be paying $4k on a engine that might not be complete?

If you send them your old engine, they should return the core charge to you. $4000 for a rebuilt enging? Wow! What do you have a diesel? If you have a gasoline engine, I would check at the dealer, most have new engines for about $3000.
