How can i fix the rpm on my car?
(2010-12-09 03:10:04) 1. Says: i own a 2000 mitsubishi eclipse Gt. i recently did the regular tune up, oil, spark plugs and air filter. i took my time doing it and i always done it correctly but this time when i started the car the rpms went from 1000 to 2000 rpms and stays there. when ever i drive it and engage on 1 gear the rpms idle up and down, like if i was pressing the gas pedal. but that only happens when i do a stop, when its on neutral it goes to 2000 rpms again. i would like to know if anyone can help me fix this problem? i havent driven the car since.2. Says: Sounds like you may have created a vacuum leak... Check the vacuum hoses for one that may have come loose or has been left off during the tune up...If you can't find the leak, then spray carb cleaner on the hoses and connections with the engine running, when you get near the leak the RPMs will change... you have found the leak...
I suspect a hose connection on the intake manifold... But best to check them all...3. Says: This could be any of a number of items. With modern fuel injected engines, there is much more to go wrong with the old carburetor engines.
First, the idle speed is controlled by an idle air control valve that is regulated by the engine management computer based on information provided from several sensors. The idle speed can not be manually adjusted.
From your description, the first thing I would look at is a disconnected or broken vacuum line. This could have easily happened during your maintenance. This would allow extra air to enter the engine during idle.
Another possibility could be a problem with the Idle Air Control valve. It is possible that you disconnected a wire during your maintenance. Or it could have failed and it is just coincidence that you just completed some other maintenance.4. Says: I agree with the vacuum leak. Double check your work when you replaced the air filter. You may not have gotten the air box sealed properly, left the MAF unplugged, or disconnected a vacuum line from the air intake system. Tag: How can i fix the rpm on my car?
