Went through a puddle in my car!?

(2010-12-22 15:10:20)
1. Liz Says: my husband went through a puddle with his car, after that the car was really hard to stear and the volt light came on then the car got really hot. what can it be?
2. Grizz Says: If water is sucked into the intake & gets into the cylinders then severe engine damage can occur, usually in the form of bent con rods, because water cannot be compressed like air & atomized fuel.

You need to seek professional help (in the form of a mechanic, not a therapist, I might add!!)

It could be that it is simply a case of the auxilliary belt getting soaked which would make it slip causing the power steering, alternator, and, if it is driven by the aux belt, the water pump, all to lose their drive, hence heavy steering, volt light, and over heating.

Very best regards

Geordie
3. strykertech Says: your belt slipped.
The belt turns the water pump, the alternator and the power steering.
So is it still slipping or maybe it broke off?
Check that. If it is broke or slipping replace it.
4. gary Says: Belt got wet, should be fine once it dries.
If it still does it, you need a new belt.

The belt turns the power steering pump, alternator and water pump.
