A replica of Ford Mustang Boss 429?
(2010-12-27 03:05:15) 1. Says: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Ai_iHGKtSNVlWvB1ZOBmcCAazKIX;_ylv=3?qid=20101225032910AAlzFyglink above CAB told me it wouldn't work to modify ford mustang boss 429 to install AC in it because the engine is too big and theres no space!
however i could build a replica of a mustang boss 429 and make it run stronger than a factory original stock.
but how would i do it? same body but different engine? is he saying that there is smaller engine than the 429's engine that is actually stronger? and i went to the site that CAB gave me and 820 Ford HEMI engine with 1800hp(thats insane) will that fit well in the car because i want AC in it. if not what engine that is stronger? that suit the car.
please explain in details. thank you
my question might sound dumb for pros out there! im just 15. and my dream is to have muscle car as my first car.2. Says: John and Rick are both right. The Boss 429 was sold to the public only to homologate the engine for NASCAR competition. In those days the race engine had to be based on a production model available to the public. The same went for the car bodies: this is why Chrysler had to build a certain number of Charger Daytonas and Plymouth Superbirds with the nosecones and enormous wings. They lost money on every one they sold but they got to take them racing.
As delivered from the factory the Boss 429 Mustang didn't work too well on the street. It's enormous intake ports and valves killed low rpm torque. A Cobra Jet Mustang of the same year would leave harder when the light turned green and was a much easier car to maintain as well compared to the temperamental Boss.
A big block crate engine based on the 429 or 460 block will be a lot cheaper and run hard, and with its more conventional cylinder heads it will clear the shock towers and there's room for an AC compressor. If just horsepower and torque numbers interest you there's more than one way to get it done. Ford Windsor small blocks have been bored and stroked all the way out to 427 cubic inches and forced induction is always an option.
With enough money to throw at a problem anything can be accomplished.

Says: hope you have a deep pocket or mom and dad does...a boss 429 motors sell for 25-50k just for the motor, those 800ci motors are huge in physical size, they will fit but it will be a drag car, guess if you had the money anything can be done,, however if you have a 1969-70 mustang a BBf came in them, but it up and get 500-60 hp and the grin will never leave your face , and cause the came with a BBf and factory ac, its easy to do4. Says: The Boss 429 engine was sooo big that Ford had to remove the stock shock towers from the factory Mustangs to get them to fit. The Ford Hemi was a prototype, tested for NASCAR, but when NASCAR heard of it, they made new rules about the factory having to make X thousand of the engines available to the general public, to keep one-off experimental engines from 'ruining' the sport. I think like two or three were built. If you want pure power, most any big block Ford can give you 2,000 hp, with the right parts. The funny car & dragster drag racers do that every day.
