35x12.5 tires on Dana 35/30 daily driver, occasional mud and no rocks?

1. das.frettchen Says: I always hear over and over how terrible of an idea it is to put 35" tires on a TJ with Dana 35/30 axles. They say that the axles are hopeless and will never survive. What I never hear for sure is what those people are doing when the axle breaks. My TJ is my daily driver, it's seen 45,000 miles since I bought it two years ago, mostly highway miles, and occasionally see's mud on the weekends but NEVER rock crawling. I'm too scared of rolling it since it's my daily driver and all..

Well recently I had 4.56 gears installed and they put an auto-locker in the rear even though I told them I wanted to leave both differentials open.. wtf right? Currently it's on 33x10.5 BFG KM2's but when they are shot I want to go with 35x12.5 KM2's. Also the Wrangler has the 4.0L engine and a 5 speed manual tranny. Do my axles have any chance of survival with the 35x12.5 tires if I stay out of the rocks and don't try to dump the clutch and spin the tires at every green light?
2. Crit Says: You have a chance with the turdy5 as long as you dont jerk it around .If I was you I would take it easy as I
could .Ha Ha I have the C825 lol
3. beartree Says: It seems that you already chosen not to listen to all the advice about the Danna 35.
4. Drone Last Says: Will it break sure, when it will break worst possible time. Can it be done sure. But a few things. The Dana 35 with a auto locker is a bad idea to begin with, then add on top of that 35's you are pushing your luck. If you had the Auto it would e a little better. But you do have the I6 so that helps. But even then you are already geared wrong for a 6 and 35's you should be looking at 4.88 but then brings another problem. You will only have 1 tooth of engagement on the R&P. And mud is not all that forgiving. I have broken more stuff in mud than ever on a trail. Seems to me that since it rarely sees mud and never rocks it is a rather big waste of money to even get 35's more less 33's. And sorry but as for them acidentally installing a autolocker I think I am going to have to call bullsh*t on that. Cause they would have charged you for it, or since you didnt want it in the first place you would have said no. But The 35s on my ZJ have handled a lot of abuse on the rocks, in the trails and in mud. And my ZJ has a v-10 in it and 35's. And as soon as it breaks I have a set of 9" axles just waiting to be installed. 2 years anc counting.
