Good first cars for a 18 yr old girl?

I love the mazda3 hatchback (models from 2008 onwards) but is there any other car like that you can think of, also available in australia? All the cars above are pretty cheap, and perfect for you. If you want some power and handling, check out the models I put between brackets, but beware... those will put a bigger hole in your pocket.
