Vw Passat or Golf for a first car?

Bado2 Says: i like both styles and since i want to customize it im thinking the golf is cheaper to customize. what do you think. theoretically speaking forget about the maintenance and all that crap in theory which one is a better first car and why? thanks2. If you want to make your car faster and nicer on the other hand do this:
ECU Remap for a large performance gain
Coilovers and tie bars for improved handling and a lower stance
Some nice lightweight wheels
Full exhaust w/resonator to be noticed but not annoying
upgraded hoses if you get a GTI to withstand increased boost3. just call me Buzz Says: The golf

Here's why, in my order of importance (in my opinion for least to MOST.)

More choice of items to customize with.
Cheaper to customize
Cheaper Insurance
Better gas mileage
The Passat is Retail Value-wise a "more expensive car". This means you can get a newer, less miles Golf for the same money. Tag: Vw Passat or Golf for a first car?
