Trunk not unlocking, 2002 Ford Explorer Sport?

(2011-01-11 15:20:57)
1. ?Kelsey? Says: When I use to key fob to unlock the car, the trunk does not unlock. Key must be used to open the trunk. Just wondering what broke/needs to be fixed?
2. K. Reed Says: There is a power lock solenoid located in the tailgate. Using the key fob, press lock and unlock and see if you can hear the solenoid moving. If not the solenoid needs to be replaced. If you can hear it but it does not engage or disengage the lock, the mechanism most likely needs to be cleaned and lubricated. It is possible but unlikely that the linkage has become disconnected or damaged. In that case, the mechanism and solenoid will need to be replaced.
3. goodnused Says: Check your fuses...look in your owners manual and see if the rear door lock is on a separate fuse from the car doors. Also there maybe a safety device on that door where it can't open if you have passengers in the back area. Read your owners manual. If it isn't something simple, then the panel will have to be removed to see if the Linkage controller solenoid is working or maybe the wire came loose! Good Luck.
4. noobishcholo Says: Probably the key mechanism that is inside. You should replace the tailgate, or see if anyone can repair it.
