Are any of these worth buying for a first car for a guy that drives really rough?
(2011-01-15 15:30:29) 1. Says: Im a 20 year old guy doing full time university. I work part time. If you had a choice of buying any of these vehicles.. which would you buy.. (take into consideration fuel economy, durability, maintenance, and insurance)Ford F150, Dodge Grand Caravan, GMC Pickup, Dodge Ram 1500, Ford Ranger, Honda CRV, Toyota RAV4, and Jeep Grand Cherokee2. Says: For Durability I would suggest going with the RAV4 or the CRV... Toyotas and hondas are known for their ability to take a beating and still roll past 200k...
They both also have pretty good gas mileage as well...
Toyotas are also known for requiring less maintainance over time (with regular fluid changes of course)
---------------that being said-----------------
I am a dodge man myself.
-Caravan- My sister had a '96 and drove it as hard as she could and put 50k (120k-170k) changed the oil twice (shes great at that) and traded it in on her next vehicle, 5 years later I still see it around.
-Ram 1500- My step dad's got a '92 2500 Diesel, not great MPG but a solid rig that wont leave you stranded. I've seen the diesels go upwards of 400k.
-Ranger- I haven't owned one myself but I do have a 93 Mustang with the 2.3L engine which is the same engine from the ranger (the small engine lol) and its really easy to work on, tons of accessibility to the places you need to work on... I changed the serpentine belt in 3 mins. Very reliable engine. good mpg @ 22/27.
-----
Jeeps are nice but most ive seen have been money pits, unfortunately because aesthetically they're good rigs.
F-150... I dont have a strong opinion either way, the farms around here run a lot of them so they must be pretty good.
GMC- I am not a GM person... with a few Oldsmobile exceptions, I've never had a pleasant experience.
----------------------------
these are my experiences and opinions, hope they can help you in your hunt... You might wanna consider a Subaru... I've loved each one we've had and they're incredibly reliable, always AWD and great in the snow, pretty good on gas, and they go forever (well over 200k)
Edit: Insurance wise...usually the newer the rig the higher the price but my mustangs the same price to insure as the Ram 2500... 35/mo for liability...3. Says: No problem I'm glad I could Help. Thanks for the best answer. 4. Says: the jeep would be your best bet there very durable and will go just about any where you want normaly the insurance is cheap on them sence alot of people have them and the only maintance realy nead done is oil and oil filter change every 3000 to 3500 miles the motors you can run hard and exspecily the trans normaly hold up being ran hard5. Says: none of these. the gas prices are gonna skyrocket pretty soon and why would you pick a truck or SUV?!! are you in construction or something? do you need a truck or suv? if not then look for a compact car or something6. Says: the jeep. they take a good beating and are pretty decent on gas. they are fairly cheaper to maintain too.7. Says: Look into the Nissan Muranos, Chevy Tahoes, and the Kia Sportage!8. Says: The dodge 150 or jeep. Any guy driving those seem sexy to me. Well. Under the age of like 35.9. Says: buy the tata aria10. Says: no you should not get any car, 20 year olds who drive rough should NOT be on the road at all11. Says: I would go with the f150...but the gas mileage won't be good.
