How do I know my oil has been changed?
(2011-01-19 15:20:13) 1. Says: My husband went out of town this last weekend. On the day he was coming home, he withdrew $60 to get an oil change. He was in the "ghetto" and did not get a reciept nor a sticker on the windshield. I checked the oil before he left, because I knew it needed to be changed, but I just didn't have enough time to get it done. Well, I had suspicions he did something else with that money, so I check the oil myself yesterday, and the oil is still black like it was when he left. He did drive 400 miles, but I thought it should still be amber or golden brown in color. Maybe I am wrong..When I checked it, the engine was hot..Any input?Should the oil be light in color? Even though he drove 400 miles.. or is it normal to get dark so quickly? we have an 06 Nissan Titan. With less than 60k on it. There is nothing wrong with the motor.2. Says: HI
Yes it should NOT be dark.. But something no one touched on is if they did not change the filter it would be dark right away as they would have left 1 qt of dirty oil in the motor. Look at the oil filter and see if it looks new or a different brand than what was on there.
good luck
tim3. Says: If your husband/boyfriend said it is changed, it is changed. He is a male, therefor is beyond reproach. What he says is the truth. He is the lord and master of his domain. How dare you go behind his back, and question his word. Maybe this question should be in the dating section, as it does not have very much to do with automotive. Another relationship on the rocks of life.4. Says: 400 Miles is not enough to make your oil go black, if anything your oil should be a shade darker comparing it to the new oil color also check your dip stick if no oil was added your dip stick should read low in oil and the stick will have a burnt smell to it.5. It's a tough one to tell actually, very often the oil will be black not because it is "dirty" but because it is working correctly and helping to remove impurities and contamination.6. Says: Fresh oil would be translucent and brown. Used oil is black and may be gritty. 400 miles would not be enough driving to dirty up the oil like that, assuming nothing else is wrong.7. Says: Maybe it wasn't the oil in the car that got changed.8. Says: when you need oil an oil light comes on in your car. if it goes off your good. Tag: How do I know my oil has been changed?
