Excuse me, but what does foot-pounds mean? Like when they say a truck has such and such foot-pounds of torque?
(2011-01-25 15:25:27) 1. Says: and if you don't mind me asking, what is torque?don't make this about something it's not. keep it real classy-like
thank you, honeymuffins xoxo2. Says: this category smells like balls.3. Says: Foot-pound (ft-lb, lb-ft) is a traditional US-UK unit of torque, gradually being replaced by newton-meter (Nm).
Torque is the capacity (usually of an engine) to turn a shaft.
The easiest way to picture it is by thinking of a hand moving a crank - with a certain hand force (say, 10 lb) the longer the crank, the more torque is exerted on its output shaft (for a 2 ft crank: T = 10 x 2 = 20 lb-ft; for a 5-ft crank: T = 10 x 5 = 50 lb-ft).
A typical engine doesn't deliver a regular (linear) torque - it varies with the revs (rpm). That's why a particular curve describes best an engine's torque characteristics.
Would this be classy enough?4. Says: foot-pounds is like, for example if i saw this car has 100 ft-lbs of torque. it means it can lift 100lbs of weight to 1 foot distance. thats all.simple as that :)
remember that torque and horse power are different. torque is about how much total work an engine can do and horsepower is how much work can an engine do in 1 second or any given time.
like 1 h.p = force requires to life 33,000lbs to a height of 1 foot in 1 second. thats how the name came. Horse power.5. Says: Foot pounds is a unit of measure used to weigh the very obese. How many feet (people) does it take to hoist up this lady. People pounds just sounds weird.
Torque applies to my contact lenses I have a stigmatism so my contacts are torqued around so I can see and stuff.6. Says: It's the sound your feet makes running away from danger, and when you torque around to see what's chasing you you get eaten, so pound faster.7. Says: Foot Pounds, I think its a dance like Michael Flatley Lord of the Dance
a torque is french for tuna sandwich8. Says: It's twist. It's how hard the engine can twist the wheels. Tag: Excuse me, but what does foot-pounds mean? Like when they say a truck has such and such foot-pounds of torque?
