Siphoning gas from my car.?

1. Monte Says: The day after I filled my tank on my 1997 Grand Am she broke down and died. So I'm going to have it towed to a salvage yard. But dammit I want my gas. I tried to siphon it out with a 4 ft section of hose but apparently my 4ft section of hose was too short so all I did was suck fumes. How long should that section of hose be? Any other hints for a car illiterate?
2. cory l Says: you won't be able to suck your gas out of your car since there is a small screen preventing you from reaching it, if you really want you need to drop your gas tank down and siphon it that way or drill a hole in the bottom of your tank, this is the dangerous route as any little spark can create a boom.
3. mustanger Says: Cars since the early 80s have tanks designed to be anti siphon. Trying to get gas out is extremely difficult if not impossible.
4. steerland Says: your right you need a couple more feet of hose. Tom
