Roughly how much would a new transmission cost?
(2011-01-29 15:20:43) 1. Says: Its a 2000 Grand Voyager.Has a little rust. Has around 155,000 miles. Have had very few problems with it except the transmission.
Is it Worth fixing?2. Says: i,ll tell you what dear. i had my share of caravans and voyagers come to me with bad transmissions. for a new transmission for that van your looking around 2 or 3 thousand dollars and that,s with a discount and that,s not paying someone to put it in. if you really want to save money then get a good used 1 from the junk yard. what,s wrong with yours? it might just be something simple like the filter or maybe the fluid need changed.3. Says: In the non-recession days I would say just buy another car but these days I suggest you think about just getting the transmission fixed. You can probably shop around and get a rebuilt tranny installed for around $1200. If the car doesn't have any other problems then you should be good to go for a long time. Who's to say that if you spend a couple thousand on a newer car that you won't have even more problems. My truck has 120,000 miles on it and my wife asks me when do I plan to get another one and I say 'It runs' why buy something else. I don't need to impress anyone with a new car so I save the money and keep driving it. $1200-$1500 for a rebuilt transmission is a lot less than $5000 for a USED car that still may have problems.4. Says: At a guess, a rebuilt one at least $2500, a used one, around $1500 installed (and you can hope it is good).5. Says: probably not. new trannies run from 2-4K. just use that money as a downpayment on anothr car6.
