My truck dies when I put it into drive?

1. Jesse Says: I have a
2000 Toyota Tundra Limited
V8 4x4 Automatic
123,000 miles

I bought it from the original owner not too long ago. The thing runs great, I drive it everywhere.

Yesterday, about an hour after I parked it, I went out to get in it to leave.

Started it, had my foot on the brake, dropped it into drive and it died.
Hmm..thats weird, put it back in Park, started it, dropped it into drive and it died again
I didn't have time to screw around so I took my friends car, I haven't messed with it since

What could it be? Is there anything I should try doing? Should I let it run longer before putting it into drive?

Thank you!

(If it matters, I recently had it looked over by my mechanic and the only two things he said it needed were a timing belt and it really needs a tune up, I had it scheduled for next week but now my money might be going somewhere else?)
2. pedro7of9 Says: 1 let it warm up
2 check tranny fluid
3 not timing belt
4 hows it run? misfireing?
5 how long has check engine lite been on [in years]
i would ck fluid,,,warm it...see if it revs up in park..should easily go to 3 or 4K rpms
if it does,,,rev it to 1000 to 1200 with foot firmly on brake and try to put it in gear,if it still shuts off..id check the brake pedal safety switch
3. Pat Says: Might check the fuel pressure and the rest pressure...
The state of tune is also very important...
