Can I put 89 Civic Si front disc brakes onto my 88 CRX's rear instead of the drum brakes?

1. Jesse Bennett Says: Lookin to do a disc swap on the rear of my CRX and I have 89 Si front disc brakes readily available, just wondering if it's possible to mount them properly on the rear.
2. FREAKBOY Says: That will throw the balance way out and will be dangerous to drive as the rear would lock up incredibly easily, a lot of work too. I'd go for a disk already from a rear, they are usually single whereas the fronts are twin. Most cars share the braking force roughly 70/30 f/r
3. Scott Says: As another user already answered, you WOULD have brake balance issues, since rear brakes are ALWAYS smaller in most vehicles, since you really only want the stopping power mostly in the front.

Also, it's highly unlikely that the two will be a compatible retro-fit, or that the braking system would be able to pressurize the disc brakes properly. Drum brakes require FAR less pressure than disc brakes to operate at the same effectiveness, so you MIGHT end up actually making your braking situation even worse.

Bottom Line: Regardless of if it fits or not, don't wear it! ;)
4. habitbites Says: if it is possible there would be too much fabrication involved. grab the trailing arms off a crx si or a 88-91 si and they should bolt right on with only minor changes in the brake lines. check out the honda forums for some better break downs on the process.
