Hanks for the responses, but why doesn't braking stop wheel spin (braking and differential not related)?

1. tommaso Says: Hello, I apologize for bothering so many with the same scenario, but bear with me. I was asking why with my Trans AM that has POSI LSD, my wheels are really stuck in ice and if I hit the accelerator, both rear wheels spin and go no where.

But even after braking the wheels will brake but when I let my foot off the break why do the wheels keep spinning? Doesn't braking tell the differential to stop spinning the rear tires. What happens when Im not stuck/elevated and am on a regular road. Why when I hit the breaks, the car stops and no the wheels are still spinning.

Right now if I rev the car up hard, I can literally brake for ten seconds, and open the door, and go across the street and watch both wheels spin while no one is in the driver's seat.

Only putting the car in Park or neutral seems to stop this? Put as soon as I put it back into Drive or Reverse, it's like the car remmebsr that is still needs to keep spinning like a mind of its own....
2. Steve Says: one when your on ice there is very little resistance on the tires and if you dont have the brakes on your drive train is in motion and the brakes have no communication to the differential you can power brke your car the front brakes will hold for a few seconds but the back brakes wont your front brakes do 60-70% of your braking
3. Dan Says: is this a serious question? brakes stop your wheels from spinning, thats it. if the car is in gear (drive or reverse) it is always trying to move the vehicle. its the same reason you can let off the brake and your car begins to roll forward.
4. Actual Size Says: If the car is in gear, and the brakes are released, the engine, tansmission, and driveline are still going to transmit power to the rear end. The rear end only reacts to the driveshaft....... or the brakes.
5. Pep Says: The car is in gear that means the tires are going to spin. The engine is running transmission in gear and the brake is off what's to stop the tires from moving?
6. Daniel Treasure Says: your idle is too high , and you should not leave the car in gear and get out
