Any danger to slow-charging an 80% charged battery while it is inside and attached to a car?

1. Inquiring Man Says: I have my battery charging in the car, its pretty well charged up its at 80% charged when i put the charger on it it was drawing "2 Amps" at 6Ampcharge and went to about 70% or 80% on the meter, i have it slow-charging at 2 Amps to top it off real nice. It is in the car, attached as a battery should be, it could start the car.

Any danger in slow-charging it attached as i have it?
2. bfs mechanic Says: slow charging is best. make sure you have a charger that will shut off when the battery reaches full charge. continuing to charge a fully charged battery can ruin the battery and in extreme cases can be dangerous
3. Chris Says: The by-product of charging a battery is the production of Oxygen and Hydrogen gas (the distilled water in the battery acid is 'split' in the process, which is why it needs to be topped-up), so be careful with naked flames, smoking & HT sparks, etc. ventilate well.
Electrically it should be fine, make sure you disconnect before turning the key and don't drive off with it still connected (I've done that in the past.)
4. brett h Says: Nope no problems at all, just make sure you pop the two caps up on top of the battery because pressure will build up, after loosening the caps take a look at the fluid level in the battery, there should be 6 hole's and fluid in all should be about 1/2 inch from the top. if needed you can use regular tap water but if you have filtered water or bottled water would be better.
5. Carl_the_Truth Says: You should be ok. I think it just takes longer to charge if the battery is in the car.
