Could i take my car back?

(2011-02-14 15:25:06)
1. Chris Says: Hi i sold my car bout 8 months ago to my neighbor and told them to change the name of the title to theirs asap. I moved cities and recently i got a call and they told me if i could go and sign a paper so they can renew the registration sticker. This tells me the car is still under my name after so long, so i am planning to get another copy of the title so their copy is null and i can take it back. Is this legal?
2. Dennis Says: Get the new copy and "sit on it" Make them come to you, the tags are expired , so they shouldn't be driving it . Legally You are responsible for any damage done by that car, and any tickets it gets. Those plates are in YOUR name. You may get stopped for a tail light out, and find out there are dozens are parking tickets in your name. This of course result in your arrest an a stay at the local police station.
3. Munkstump 2 Says: In New York State, you are charged $8 a day for every day you have plates/registration on a car without insurance. It only goes up to a certain amount, then it's time penalty (re-registration of that vehicle is delayed for however many days it did not have insurance, even for the next owner, after the insurance is paid up).
It is okay to have a title without insurance. Obviously, or else people wouldn't be allowed to hoard plate-less vehicles the way they do. But it is not legal in most places to have plates without insurance.
IDK where you are, but if it was NY, this car would be unable to be re-registered for another 8 months, and that's after all the paperwork is sorted.
4. stephen c Says: You obviously left your plates on the car. You will be liable if they have an accident unless it gets sorted out. Plus what about red light cameras, or worse. Go to the DMV and report it sold, then report this to the police; it is illegal for them to be driving on your plates. People only do this when they don't want to buy insurance of their own. The police should ask them for a registration. If not I would sue them in small claims court; at least a judge will hear your complaint.
5. Al Says: Whenever you sell a vehicle, you are suppose to do your part (REPORT THE VEHICLE BEING SOLD TO THE DMV within 5 days). I don't think you can take the vehicle back, because the money have been exchanged hand and it is a contract once money is exchanged. Just go to the DMV and file a paper stating the car is sold.
6. roger Says: your going to have a long happy life in prison, this is the kind of thinking that gets people put there have fun. dont go in there with long hair, the lifers like that a lot.
