Jesse Bennett Says: When installing a short shifter (the previous owner probably did) there are 4 bolts holding the linkage and bearing on the bottom of the shifter to the body of the car underneath. It sounds to me, since you said you have to pull up to get it in gear, that one or two of these bolts isn't in all the way, or at all so the linkage is sitting too low. If you can get underneath and locate the shift linkage (it connects to the lever just above/next to the exhaust resonator underneath the car) and see if it is secured properly to the underside. If it isn't it'll just take 10mm bolts.

Bill Says: You may have a short shifter installed on it. They sit much lower than standard shifters. It allows you to shift gears much easier and shorter. Go to a junkyard and get a standard shifter for the CRX. Better yet, ask the guy you got it from if he has the original shifter.

Kyle G Says: its it a custom shifter? or dose it have a custom nob on the shifter if it is you could probably get a factory one and replace it.
