What is the best way to buy used auto parts?

1. Steve G Says: I need a new mechanism to lift the window in the door of my Honda. I would like to save money by buying it used, and I see that there are a number of web sites designed to link buyers and sellers of used auto parts. Any advise? Sites to avoid, or other pitfalls? Better to go to a local junk yard?
2. scrubbag Says: I would try a local yard first, that way you can see before hand what you are getting and negotiate the price. If local, he may give you a bargain, hoping that you will return. And no shipping costs.

Online yards can send you what they want, and if you don't pay much for the item, it won't be worth sending it back, the shipping will just be too much.

Unless you can find one online that is reputable, and has some kind of guarantee or warranty, plus maybe return shipping.

Ebay might not be a bad place, you can see how many bad reviews the seller has, and since bad reviews hurts his business, he will more then likely try not to sell you junk. If his selling points are high, with 98% or better good reviews, you should be alright.
3. don r Says: I favor going to a local yard. Besides picking the part, I can practice doing the replacement on their car so when I get home I can fix mine with ease- or know I need a professional if I can't do the job.
