Antifreeze or Coolant?
(2011-02-18 15:20:49) 1. Says: hii am facing a little problem with my car. in general, it doesn't bother me at all. my heating system is good inside the car. but the engine doesn't heat up adequately. in running condition, the indicator goes up about 20% whereas it should be in the middle position. when i was changing my engine oil, the technician from the shop told me to add little more coolant in the reserve tank. i bought a Preston 50/50 antifreeze. when i was about to add little more of it, i saw the existing liquid in the radiator was i guess coolant of reddish color. but the antifreeze i bought is of yellowish color.
i don't know what to do in this case. should i change the whole existing coolant and put antifreeze or it will be okay to add antifreeze in the coolant?
am confused. please help me out
thanks2. Says: Coolant is antifreeze or vise versa. You bought a different type of coolant that's in your vehicle, that's all.Wouldn't mix them. Some are considered lifetime, some are for two years or so.some coolants are made for specific vehicles. If unsure and the coolant is old, would just have it flushed and add new.50/50 is recommended except for harsh climates-extreme heat or extreme cold.3. Says: Yes,was probably time to change it any way. 4. Says: DONT mix the colors unless the bottle you bought says its okay to otherwise i think its fine i think anitfreeze is the coolant also is it winter cause some cars in the winter need to have the radator parshely blocked because they dont always regualte the heat that well5. Says: you need to put the same color coolant that is already in your car. even though it looks reddish it is actually orange. also in the winter unless your on a long trip or run the car 24-7 your car will not get up to to operating conditions.6. Says: The horror stories of mixing antifreeze is over. This mixing problem was only a few years and soon the antifreeze companies fixed the chemistry of their product . You can now "mix different colors" as you say.7. Says: Red/orange coolant is dexcool or equivalent that is 5year/50k mile coolant....green/yellow is 24 month/24k coolant. You should not mix them but if you add green to red then the red is no longer 5year50k coolant8. Says: Its ok I have done so but I like to have all the same but I know a guy that's put beer in the radiator just to get home. Tag: Antifreeze or Coolant?
