I lost brake fluid by mistake...?

1. N G Says: I was checking the front brake pads of my 2000 Honda Civic and decided to do a little more thorough check by removing the calipers and removing the pads. In the process, I made the mistake of loosening the bolt for the brake line instead of the caliper and lost a little brake fluid, the size of the puddle on the driveway was about the 4-5 inches in diameter or the circumference of a small paper cup (that's what I get for trying to do this early in the morning after I just woke up). I immediately re-tightened the bolt to avoid further fluid loss and the cap to my master cylinder was on the whole time. Needless to say I didn't go through with the pad change but checked my brakes right away, it was spongey while the car was off ( I'm trying to think if I ever had sponginess while the car was turned off in the first place). I did add a little more DOT3 fluid in the master cylinder to top it off, again they were spongey at first when the car was off but when I started the car and moved back and forth testing the brakes they seemed to be normal again, the sponginess disappeared. You think I still need to bleed my brakes or topping it off was fine at this point?
2. mailbox1024 Says: Bleed the caliper anyway out of safety and peace of mind, & the engine needs to run to get the true feel for the brakes with vacuum applied to the booster.
good luck......
3. Michael S Says: I think you should STOP messing with your brakes, they are the only thing that stops you car from hitting other people's cars.
4. mdk68gto, ase certified m tech Says: fill the master back up and bleed the system one more time to make sure that you dont end up being a stat in the newspaper.
5. Marble Says: Definitely need to bleed them again
