How to adjust neutral safety switch 1997 jeep cherokee?

Scott Says: I have a 97 cherokee I6 auto and my reverse lights don't light and the bulbs are good. Also sometimes it wont start in park but in neutral and a few times didn't start in either for almost 10 mins. Thanks all

Marty F Says: Loosen the mounting bolts to the switch. If it's a manual transmission, place it in nuetral otherwise place it in Park. Look for a small hole in the switch that will accept a 3/16' drill bit. With the drill bit inserted in the hole, rotate the switch counter clock-wise until it will not move any more. Hold the switch in this position and tighten the mounting bolts. Remove the drill bit. Check for correct operation of the shifter.
