WHY IS MY TRUCK SLOWER AFTER HAVING A REMANUFACTURED TRANSMISSION PUT IN?
(2011-02-27 15:15:23) 1. Says: I just had a remanufactured Jasper transmission (AOD) put in my 1984 f150 and it is a lot slower than when my old one was in it. I used to floor the gas pedal just under 30 mph and my truck would put you back in your seat and just fly. Also when I'm driving around 35 mph my rpms are at 1,100 and they used to be at about 1,700. Now I hit the gas and my truck doesn't accelerate near as fast, it shifts smooth and everything it just isn't as fast as it was, before it would really take off at just under 30 mph. Could it be that someone put a shift kit or something in my old transmission or does the remanufactured one have to be broken in?2. Says: chances are that the transmission is just fine and all is proper. the most likely deal is your old transmission had a torque converter with a higher stall speed [a higher stall speed converter allows the engine to deliver more torque at the higher rpm that you noted with the old transmission]with the current combination you should see an improvement in fuel mileage, if you can't stand the way it is now you will have to replace the converter with an aftermarket one. if this is done you should also look in to having a "shift kit" installed.
be advised however that if you choose this route it may void the jasper warranty and if the engine is bone stock you still may not see any noticeable performance gain, compared with the amount of dollars that are laid out.3. You've asked 3 times, there isn't much anyone can do without looking at the car.4.
