How do i get my 2000 dodge ram 1500 into 4wd?

(2011-02-27 15:15:24) 1. Trevor Says: I got stuck in soft dirt tonight, just buried my truck completely. I have a shifter on the floor for the 4wd. After shifting it into 4 wheel high no 4WD dash indicator light came on nor did it even go into 4wd. I put the truck in neutral and park in attempt to get it into 4 wheel high and nothing worked. im extremely frustrated and upset that my 4wd may not work. If someone knows more about these trucks or might know what i did wrong or should look for, please let me know. I have only had the truck 2 weeks. I bought it used from my uncle who was the first owner.2. talon0325 Says: Transfer case is operated via a lever and is mechanical, the front diff is actuated by a vacuum diaphram on the right side of the axle, check that the hoses are still on. Most likely the thing is rusted off as most <2001 will be of it just does not work. Not a cheap part from the dealer. Other thing I have found with those trucks is the center axle shaft will be rounded out at the end and not let the coupler slide over to connect the axles. just did 7 so far this winter.Might find a used one here.http://www.car-part.com/ Took me a few weeks to find one.so I just payed out the coin and bought new.3. dodge man Says: your truck should have automatic hubs on it, try checking the front actuator on the front axle if it doesn't engage it won't lock in 4x4 ,that's the most common cause of that happening that i run across,the switch on the front actuator is what makes the light come on once its locked in to 4x4,but it will only come on once the actuator is engaged on it,good luck with it.4. done wrenching Says: I would agree it's probably a vacuum hose-connection-switch issue.5. ChrisWF Says: Does it have hubs by any crazy chance? If so, they need to be locked.
