Is synthetic oil really necessary for high mileage vehicles ? my car is sluggish can I just use a fuel inject?

1. Futurist Says: The only cars that really need synthetic are those with turbo chargers.
That is because oil in the turbo charger gets much hotter than a normal engine.
With normal oil, you can usually afford to change more often, and that actually keeps the engine cleaner. Synthetics are a waste for most engines, because you still have to change it once a year just to get rid of the water, acids, and grit that builds up. So the fact synthetic almost never breaks down, just does not really matter.

As far as sluggish, change the fuel filter, reduce the spark plug gap, advance the ignition timing, change the air filter, try gas line alcohol dryer, etc., but a bad injector is not likely going to be helped by any additives. If you want to see if the injectors are spraying right, they can be removed from the manifold, while still on the fuel lines. Then you can see then spray when you crank it over. They should have a nice cone spray shape. If they don't, you can try to manually clean them, but bad injectors usually end up being replaced.

The most common fuel injection problem is the air mass sensor. If it works on vacuum, then leaks like a broken hose will really cause them to work badly. If they work thermally, then they will fail if they get coated with foam from the PCV valve. In which case they can easily be removed, cleaned, and put back in.

If that does not help, the next thing to do is put a pressure gauge on the fuel lines, to see of the pump is up to pressure.
You could also have bad purge or EGR valves, or bad sensors like for temperature or O2.
2. Motorhead Says: Without knowing the year make and model of your car and the mileage on the odometer how do you expect an answer to your question? What type of fuel injection system does your car have, TBI or throttle body?

At this point, the most expensive synthetic oil in the world will not fis a sluggish engine. You could have low fuel pressure, plugged fuel filter or a nasty dirty fuel system. Has the car had ignition wires, spark plugs distributor cap and rotor in the past 50,000 miles? If your motor doesn't have spark plugs wit platinum electrodes the plugs need to be changed every 25 - 30,000 miles tops. If you don't have electronic ignition the wires should be scrapped along with the 25- 30,000 mile spark plugs.
3. Country Boy Says: i wouldnt say its necessary but it may help your car last a little longer. also if your car is sluggish ide ude fuel injector cleaner and if its not away after that tank you need a tuneup. witch would be spark plug wires spark plug. new air filter and ect
4. jamie t Says: No synthetics r good for new vehicles up to 100,000 miles. The best thing for ur sluggishness is putting lucas fuel injector cleaner in with ur gas.
