Can A Bad Timing Belt Cause Oil Leak and White Smoke?
(2011-03-01 15:20:52) 1. Says: My car was sitting for two years. I recently changed the antifreeze, put new gas in and a new battery. It cranked up immediately, but I noticed an oil leak. So I put No leak Engine Treatment and Oil into the motor. But the car is now smoking from the hood (no smoke from exhaust) and smells like something burning. Can a bad timing belt cause this? Its a Honda Prelude btw.2. Says: i would say no . if the car as been sat four 2 years then started rite up i doubt its the head either as u would have smoke/steam out the exhaust . check all ur hoses for splits or perished it would cause steam from the bonnet when the coolant was under pressure also if u had an oil leak and it went over the exhaust it would cause smoke from the bonnet as it was being burnt of from the exhaust i would give it a good check over to rule out hoses and oil on the exhaust first i doubt very much its the head or head gasket gone3. Says: If the car had a broken or slipping timing belt, then your cylinder heads could possibly hit valves that are opening out of time causing them to bend. If this happens then the valve seals would no longer seal and oil/coolant could get into your intake. So yes, it is possible that a slipping timing belt could cause this, but just fixing the timing belt will not fix your issue. IF this is what has happened you will need a valve job also at the least.4. Says: Has a top-overhaul for your engine.Don't waste time, effort and money to top up oil.
Nothing to do with the timing belt.5. Says: you've probably spilt some oil on the exhaust manifold when you topped it up, it should burn away and stop smoking.6. Says: Bad head gaskets will cause that. Maybe a loose or warped head.7. Says: no,
oil leaks are not caused by belts,
which are external.8. Says: nope. You have a leak. Tag: Can A Bad Timing Belt Cause Oil Leak and White Smoke?
