What is the role of clutch in driving ?
(2011-03-03 15:25:13) 1. Says: a clutch is a mechanical device which provides for the transmission of power (and therefore usually motion) from one component (the driving member) to another (the driven member). The opposite component of the clutch is the brake.Clutches are used whenever the ability to limit the transmission of power or motion needs to be controlled either in amount or over time (e.g. electric screwdrivers limit how much torque is transmitted through use of a clutch; clutches control whether automobiles transmit engine power to the wheels).2. Says: When you push in the clutch on a manual transmission it puts the transmission in neutral so you can go to a higher or lower gear without grinding the "teeth" of the gears in the flywheel. In some vehicles, at the proper rpm you can shift to a higher gear without engaging the clutch ( synchronized ).
I would advise anyone anywhere to learn to drive with a manual transmission.3. Says: The clutch doesn't change gear, that's the shifters job.
The clutch transmits power from the engine to the transmission. It is able to be disengaged to allow for the shifting of the gears.4. Says: The clutch is between the engine and transmission. It allows the engine to be disconnected from the transmissions when the gears are changed.5. Says: To disengage the gear so you can select another gear.6. Says: To change gear.
