1. BooWopShabaam Says: Aight, I have a 2001 GMC Yukon. The muffler was making a little noise because it had a few small holes it in. I took it to this supposed muffler shop referred to me by someone trustworthy. Before going there, I called ahead to get a price quote. Keep in mind, the guy on the phone quoted me a price of $120.00. It was doable. So, I take it in, and when I get there, I talk to a DIFFERENT GUY. The different guy puts it on the lift, calls me to the garage and shows me the holes. Then he said "That's why it sounds a little loud" and I responded with "Exactly, and I hate that". At that point, we agree that I want my truck quiet. Then, I asked him "How much would a job like this cost me?" He used a few technical terms before he answered with "It will run you about $140.00". I said "Well, the guy on the phone quoted me a price of $120.00". Then, he said "$120.00 it is". Why didn't I run then?!?! Good Grief. Anyway, I let him fix it. He takes it for a spin and says it's ok. But, I told him that it still sounded loud and I noticed some strange smelling white smoke. THEN HE SNEAKS IN THE COMMENT OF "well, it's not a factory muffler so it will be a little louder. What?! Now you tell me, he should have said this before doing the dam job. I asked him about the smoke, he said "It's anti-freeze". I said, "well it wasn't smelling like this before I brought it in". He said that it could come at anytime. Really? I wasn't buying that. I told him that I will be keeping an eye on it and for him to expect to hear from me because so far I wasn't satisfied. I drive off, and I'm telling you, it sounded like I was riding a motorcycle. Each time I accelerate, the loudness is overwhelming. It now idles loudly and you can definately hear me coming down the street from a block away. Wrong answer. When I turn the ignition, it's just annoying loud. Did I say it's loud?

Ok, so, I'm gonna give him a chance to fix it. I have to. But if I'm not happy and take it to another shop, and they find a problem, can I have them remove the muffler (keeping it in the original condition), take it back to the old shop and expect to get my dam money back?
2. Buster Says: At $120 common sense would suggest your not getting an OEM muffler, so sound level will be sacrificed, mostly reserved for those just trying to pass a smog check on a budget. just take it back and be nice, ask them if there's anything they can do for you. most likely they will, but expect to pay more for a quiet muffler,
3. Pedal2TheMetal45 Says: HI
I'm going to say no.. all you say is they found a problem??? Well was the problem with the muffler? the pipe? manifold gasket? the cat converter?. Anyway to get you money back you would have to have the original shop fix the problem..
sorry.
4. mailbox1024 Says: If you paid by check, cancel the check, if by credit card, then contact the credit card company to reverse the funds and explain why. Once the tech realizes he lost the money. you can watch to see how fast he is willing to make good on the exhaust.
By the way, new mufflers do need a little break in time to burn off the oil residue when new. This oil is to prevent the muffler from surface rusting. This is normal, but it is NOT a coolant type of smell, just burning oil smell.

Good luck......
5. TW Says: NO.You will not get any refund from the muffler.First off,A new muffler will smell and smoke as it heats up the first few times. As far as the quality, they may exchange the muffler with a better one but it may cost you the differnce. Also, when they quote you a price on the phone, they dont include clamps and such unless you ask for the installed price although they still may not enclude clamps or torch work or welding so it's never a cemented price. If you have someone else replace it,you will have thrown what you already paid out the window!!
Have the same shop replace it with a better muffler and pay the difference.Labor should not be included in the differnce but they may charge you alittle more.
