Repairing broken armrest in Ford Ranger?
(2011-03-15 14:20:25) 1. Says: I just bought a 2003 Ford Ranger with a folding armrest/center console (storage in armrest), the inside abs piece is cracked from the hinge to front of the rest and the latch is broken so every time we fold it back the contents could fall out. It is a basic truck, with hardly any interior storage so I want to do something with this. Plus I like to lean into it while driving and I can feel it bowing in, probably how it was broke by original owner.A used lid on ebay is around $100 plus shipping and it is pretty rough looking.
I have some ideas - like using plastic epoxy to fix the crack and finding some abs plastic, cutting it into strips to use as cross supports (attach with epoxy and small screws) and using magnets to keep it shut.
Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated, Thanks in advance.2. Says: Try LKQ (U-pick junkyard). You could probably find a newer center console for your truck there, and if you're feeling up to experimenting, you could even try to find a newer version (like a 2006 Ford Ranger) of the same center console. Problematic things like that are usually replaced or updated in the newer year trucks.3. Says: you mean when you raise the lid the whole works lift up and spills everything out? see if there,s a way you can put a brace on it to hold the compartment down when you raise the lid.4. Says: Use a small metal hinge, 2 screws on the lid and 2 into the box.
Use self tapping screws with plastic. Tag: Repairing broken armrest in Ford Ranger?
