Turning right on red light question?

1. solidsnake918 Says: I know in most places in the United States, you can turn right on red when the way is clear, unless otherwise indicated. However, is it required? More importantly, if I can't see another direction or I think someone else has the light and don't want to risk hitting someone else that has the light, am I allowed to sit at a red light until it turns green?

2. Troll Patrol Says: Best to ask a cop as laws can vary in different locations. The thing most people forget is that it's right on red AFTER YOU HAVE STOPPED. If you don't come to a complete stop, it's the same as running a red light & the ticket can be pricey!

It is always best to wait if your view is obstructed- better to listen to some honking & have someone make a rude gesture than to have a wreck. I would think any cop would tell you not to proceed when you don't know if it's safe.

3. Matt Says: If your view is obstructed, it's definitely a good idea to not take any chances. As for the people who got upset at you, what you can do next time is stop a little bit behind the stop line so they don't have room to go past you. Then they'll be even more upset. Another tip, if someone is tailgating you, then you should slow down, because you need to make up for the decreased amount of time they would have to react if you were to stop. You can also tap the brake several times in rapid succession so they'll see your brake lights flashing, they tend to like that.

4. Courtney Says: Yes of course you're allowed to but the people behind you might just get pissed off but no one can tell you how to drive. Drive the way you feel is comfortable for you.

5. Big Mac Says: It's absolutely fine and legal to wait until the light turns green. I'm not that aggressive with my right turns on red lights but no one has ever honked at me for it.

6. bixie Says: Yes you are, although it may irritate some drivers. But they can deal with it.
