My car won't start at all?
(2011-03-20 14:20:40) 1. Says: 94 camaro.20 minutes earlier it started like brand new as always(got a full tune up) and tonight I went to start it and instead the dash flickered on and car off and wouldn't start. This is my first time ever dealing with a car that wouldn't start. My door lights don't even turn on. I turn the key, nothing, it's dead. Battery right? I'm charging it now, just making sure.2. Says: Sounds more like alternator. I have a GM vehicle (98 Sierra) and I'm on my 4th one now. My gauges and lights act strange when it has gone out in the past. It's always happened as I was driving and my instrument panel would flicker and gauges would go up and down. If the alternator turns out to be the problem make sure you get that battery professionally tested because it's more than likely shot.3. Says: A battery is an energy storage device. If it has lost it's ability to hold a charge, it is called bad. It sure sounds like a discharged or failed battery. Try boosting. You can buy a very good, and accurate Battery/charging system tester at Advance Auto for <$10.00. I had to try it. I compared it to three electronic testers and the accuracy is, well, impressive.
Batteries usually give some warnings that are unknowingly ignored before totally collapsing. Get a boost first, then plug in the aforementioned tester. You are checking alternator output. It should be as an absolute minimum 13.5 Volts. If it is not, make sure there is a drive belt present on the alternator, and sufficient tension. If you are at 14.4 -14.8 you are blessed. Go to an auto parts store and have them test the battery. They charge a lot less than one of the "Major parts stores." You should pay about $65-$75 for a 750 Cold Cranking Amp battery with a few years of warranty. Ask questions, compare prices. Listen to me. I know all this stuff.4. Says: Yes dead battery. Once u get it charged go and have the battery n alternator tested. Tag: My car won't start at all?
