I spun a rod bearing so what are my options to get my car home?

Earl Mcnulty Says: i had just purchase a 99 cavalier z24 and when i bought it i knew what i was getting into because they had told me a bearing was spun. well i know the best way to get it home is to pull it. well i dont really have the tow money at the moment so i was wondering what my options are as to getting it back home my house is at least 35 miles from the place. my friend sam recomended draining the oil and putting 1 quart of 5w-30 oil and the rest lucas does that sound like a good idea? well i need sum answers so feel free to say

2. thebax2006 Says: Tow or flat bed it home. If you don't have the money for a tow, how the hell do you intend to come up with the $2,500 to rebuild the motor?
Start the motor with a "spun bearing" and you will seize the bearing and throw a connecting rod through the block.
HINT....If you run the motor you don't have the mental capacity to repair the motor anyway.

If it has a bad bearing but still runs, it might be a cheap rebuild. If you try and run it and throw a rod through the block it will be expensive.

Pull it, tow it, or fix it there. You should have figured on that to start with.

Andy Says: You really need to tow it home.If you decide to try driving it home i would plug the plug wire on the cylinder with the spun bearing so it's not firing.That will lessen the strain your putting on it.Still a pretty risky thing to do though.If it throws the rod the whole engine will probably end up junk.

6. bandit_60 Says: if you take it easy it should bring you home. throw some STP in it to help pack the bearing and drive slow. i figure the crank is already scared so your not going to hurt it any. the rod won,t break if you take it easy.
