BMW, Saab, Mercedes or Volvo for cheap first car?
(2011-03-24 14:30:17) 1. Says: I'm looking for my first car with a small budget of about 1500 and need something to get me to and from work. I've heard BMW and Mercedes are expensive to have worked on, so maybe not a good choice. Volvo's seem to last for ever, same with Saabs. Of the choices listed above which would you recommend for my budget and needs? Thanks!2. Says: Ok, sick of these idiots saying that all Euro cars are expensive to work on. jap cars like Honda/Acura, Toyota/Lexus, KIA, Nissan/Infinity all cost more to repair the BMW, Volvo and Benz.WV and Audi are the exception. these are the most expensive cars, other then Jag and Rover, to work on.
And actually the 90's Bimmers are really cheap for parts and labor. I have an E34 BMW and it is cheaper then my wife's KIA.
I would really steer clear of VW and AUDI you will only be throwing money down the drain.
For 1500 I would look at some late 80's 5 Series BMW's they are great cars, have character and class and are very dependable.
The early 90's Volvo wagons are die hards and great rigs.
Also, if you can find a Pre-GM made Saab they are ok, on the spendy side for parts, but kid of cool looking. Stay away from the turbos.
Good luck!3. Says: If you want a cheap first car I would go Japanese, American or Korean. Euro cars are generally more expensive and cost more to maintain. Don't get me wrong I love Euro cars. They are definitely cooler and less common.
All the cars you listed are good ones. Shop around and see what you can get the best deal on.4. Says: What about VW / Audi? They are cheaper to buy, cheaper to fix, cheaper to run. What about US Domestic? Asian?
Also, BMW and Mercedes are very uncomfortable to sit in for long periods (like sitting on a cinder-block)
Of your non-choices Volvo's have the best dealer/warranty support.5. Says: for $1500. you will not get much of anything. and of course you picked all high price, high maintenance types. get rid of your ego and get real. be wary of craiglist scams.6. Says: For 1500, ignore make/model and look for condition/miles.7. Says: If you only have 1500 to spend then why are u looking at more expensive luxury cars? You should look at just some cheap plain cars for that price range. If you want a luxury car for that cheap its either going to be really old, garbage, or really high milage.
