96 chevy cavalier automatic transmission?

(2011-03-25 14:15:20) 1. sweetheart17 Says: Ok i have a 96 chevy Cavalier,but we do not know what year the transmission is.and the right front axel went out and we can not replace it because we do not know what year the trans is.is there any other way i can guess and see what year i need to get for the axel to be replaced?2. It is the 3T40 tranny if it is a 3-speed automatic (1982-2002), the 4T40 tranny if it is a 4-speed automatic (1995-2005), and the Getrag 282 tranny if it is a 5-speed manual (1987-1999).
