What is the first thing I do when I buy a car from a dealer in MA?
(2011-03-25 14:30:25) 1. Says: Im buying a car tomorrow and It's my first time buying, I have no idea what I have to do. Do I have to get insurance before I take it off the lot or can I get it later? What do I need from them when I give them the money besides a receipt? Can I drive it home without the license plates on it? If I can't drive it home with out the plates can I park it without plates? Also I only have a permit right now does that matter(Im 18)?Thank you for your help because im so lost right now :(2. Says: Before you sign one document. Before you hand over $1. You ask to take the car to an independent mechanic for a complete inspection. This will cost you about $100. But you cannot afford to buy a POS that needs repairs. If you drive off the lot, and the engine blows up the next day, you will own a POS with a blown engine. There is not right to return. There is no law that will protect you. You must take preventative measures.
After your mechanic gives you the green light, THEN you buy the car.
If you dont already have car insurance, you need to get set up with an agency before going to the dealer. At the dealership you can call the agent and get the policy activated immediately before driving off. they can fax the proof of insurance directly to the dealer.
They will give you a temporary plate until the DMV issues permanent ones
If you only have a permit, you will need someone with you to drive home.3. Says: NO NO NO NO NO!!!
There is NO AUTOMATIC WARRANTY in any state. Period! These myths keep circulating but it is simply not true. If you drive off the lot and the car erupts into flames, you own a burned out car. There is NO "return" law, No "buyers remorse" law, and no automatic warranty! Tag: What is the first thing I do when I buy a car from a dealer in MA?
