How much does it cost to get minivan a/c fixed?

For his birthday, I am getting him a chiropractic adjustment & massage (he's a salesman and drives around in his car all day).
The A/C in his vehicle is broken. We live in Atlanta, and if you are familiar with Southern humidity, you know why a/c is so important.
He drives a Toyota Sienna minivan. What would it cost in parts to get it fixed?
We have a friend that has a shop at his home who does side jobs, so labor isn't an issue.
(Approximately how long will it take to complete the job?)

A leaking hose could simply be replaced, the system evacuated and refilled with refrigerant. But that's just one possible situation. Here's what I'd do. Take it to a shop and have it evaluated and get an estimate. They will tell you the parts and cost. Your friend who does the side jobs needs specific tools to evacuate the system, so make sure he can do this. First ask a repairman (your friend) what is wrong with it and go from there. It could be something simple like a charge of gas. It could be something much worse like a compressor.
