Crunching sound. i think it's the strut?

(2011-04-04 14:20:32)
1. The Grim Adventures Of Ian Says: the crunching sound often happens:
-when the car springs back after braking hard/stopping
-as the car straightens out, after making a sharp right turn
-over bumps/potholes

it comes from the front left wheel and sometimes when i push and pull up and down on the car near that wheel, it will make the incremental crunching noise.

if it is something to do with the strut, what part of the strut is the problem and what all would i need to fix or replace?? and would i need to have the other struts worked on too?
2. mailbox1024 Says: Could be the strut, the strut bearing or a broken spring. You always replace them in pairs and perform a re alignment once they are replaced. Also check the brake calipers for any binding, the sound you hear may also be the pads worn down to the rotors and making a metal on metal contact. To perform a strut replacement where the spring must be removed to be swapped over to the new strut, you will need what is called a strut compressor as you will need to compress the strut spring so you can remove and replace the strut spring onto the new replacement strut. You forgot to mention the year make and model car you own, so i cant tell you if the strut needs to have the spring swapped over or not, some vehicles have the strut with the springs as in all in one and some do not. Try looking on you tube for some help by way of a video for more answers.
good luck......
