My Buddy Scooter won't go above 35 mph?
(2011-04-05 14:20:11) 1. Says: The Scooter is relatively new - it only has about 3500 km on it. This morning, no different from any other, I filled up my tank with gas, then I drove it to school and back home, and to work without trouble (about 25 miles total). But when I left work to drive back to school my scooter was acting really weird. It would only get up to about 35 mph, typically only going about 30. Earlier during the day I had been hitting about 60 mph. I felt a little bit like a hazard because I could only accelerate to 35 on a 45 mph speed limit road, but I eventually made it to campus.Does anybody know of an obvious reason why this could have happened? When I was checking my tires to see if they were flat, I accidentally burned my knuckles on the muffler (because I'm an idiot), but is it suppose to get that hot within a 10 minute drive? Could there have been something wrong with the gas from this morning? I don't know very much about cars/scooters - but would you guys think it would be safe to drive home? Am I damaging my scooter by trying to make it go faster?2. Says: Methinks the kind sir should lay off the Schnapps.
You have a scooter with perhaps an engine problem.
But check the wheels first and make sure nothing has jambed. Do they turn freely? Do they continue to turn freely in all gears ? Does the machine have a belt or chain? Is it slack? Is it overly tight? Are the brakes free in their action? Nothing stuck? No foreign objects that are wobbling in and out of contact, like a neighbors cat or squirrel?
Is yours a twin cylinder scooter? Are both cylinders firing (check the plug wires for tightness).
And one final check, is your twist grip actually twisting the whole way, or is something stuck,m broken or stretched ? Cables do "go", you know?
Then call the Dealer, get a tow, and relax, you aren't the first person to get stuck.
I have driven tens of thousands of miles on a Norton. I was a mechanic that worked on very complex textile looms. But I had to tow my Norton once, because ONE wire shorted out.
Stuff happens. No shame.
But no, it's not safe to drive a bike that is not producing it's proper power level. A fellow might have a partially seized engine or transmission and that could be a very bad thing if it locks up solid and tosses one into a truck.3.
