Is my new fuel pump and filter ok?

(2011-04-07 14:20:09)
1. newdad022000 Says: Today i went to my mechanic and got my fuel pump and filter changed.Since i have a 1997 jeep grand cherokee laredo the pump and filter come together as one so you have to replace both.
After the car was fixed i drove it and it drove great, better and smoother than before. It was stalling out and sputtering before the new pump and after all diagnostics and computer scans came up good,it was finally determined it was the filter/pump.
Also the gas in the tank was was so dirty that it all had to be dumped out and the gas tank cleaned.
I had to go to gas station and put 10 bucks in because it was on E.
So i drove it to a store right after and turned the car off.
When i came back out after an hour of shopping i went to start the jeep and it was trying to turn over but didnt. After a second try it started and drove fine.
Could it be that because its all new and the tank was completely emptied out that it had has to work itself in?
2. cory l Says: just put more gas in your car, and please DONT listen to Chris put your regular octane in your car as higher octane rating means its harder to ignite requiring more compression and a hotter spark to ignite it might make your engine have a nice spark knock and the lucas stuff? i've NEVER put any kind of additive or cleaner in my car and i won't either, it's pretty sad when you can buy "compression fix in a can" and "transmission fix in a can" and "engine sealer in a can" its putting a band-aid on a gaping wound it's not going to work and your just blowing money.
3. elkillerx Says: Could of been that, maybe the fuel lines did not have enough pressure. You should completely fill up the tank and see if it still dose it. If the problem still exists, take it back to your mechanic.
4. John Toller Says: You needed more gas. Never run your tank that low these days because its hard on the pump and it cavitates the pump. The pump wears when it cavitates. Never go under 1/8 of a tank.
5. Carfixer_14 Says: If it does it again then go take it back to the shop but of it's working fine then your fine don't worry about
6. Shawn Says: There was probably an air bubble trapped in the fuel system.
7. bandit_60 Says: you still might be too low on gas. 10 bucks won,t get much gas today.
8. Chris Says: fill up with 93 octane for a couple tanks..like Shell or Mobil
try 1 bottle of Lucas fuel cleaner ..comes in a 6 oz bottle at auto zone for 5 bucks...

dont keep the fuel tank too low...it makes the fuel pump work harder....( its like running a bilge pump constantly with little water to pump)
keep you tank no less than 1/4 going forward to ensure the longevity of the new pump

dont put poor quality fuel in the truck ...youll get bad results ...clean fuel ayatem can solve most common hiccups in any car/truck
