Are the symptoms of a bad fuel pump relay different from the symptoms of a bad fuel pump?

David H Says: not really(in both cases, your fuel pump is not runnning), but the relay can be checked much more easily, and replaced for <$10 so i would start with that.fyi, you should also check the ASD(auto shutdown) relay as it also has the effect of shutting down your fuel pump if one of several paramaters get out of range.

3. Bub Says: Have you recently ran your vehicle out of gas? Within the last say six months? If so, you can almost bet it is your gas pump, not the relay?

Today's fuel pumps use the gas to cool and lubricate the pump, if you have run it completely out of gas at any time, you will most likely need to replace the pump within six months.

4. That ain't right Says: with a wiring diagram and a voltage meter it should be easy to check that voltage is going into the relay and out of it if ya get voltage into the relay but not out its the relay if voltage at fuel pump its the fuel pump
