Is it possible to buy an old BMW Sedan for $4000? If so, what year? Will it run fine as well?

2. Darren Wong Says: There are a few early 2000 BMW 3 series available for sale on sites such as autotrader for that price range. Also, you can get a e36 3 series easily for that price. However, you will be burdened with a 12-20 year old car.

There will be tons of wear and tear problems with the car, and the mileage will also be pretty high (looking at over 130,000 miles).

To me, it would be a terrible investment. The only reason why people sell these cars for $4000 is because they are becoming junkers. The technology in the old BMW's are lacking and you can get better cars for that money. Try looking for something more practical for $4000. The maintenance itself will cost more in a few years.

3. GWR309 Says: yeah it's possible. We have a 2001 BMW 540i (with a v8 engine). There's 90k miles on it. And kbb and edmunds say it's worth $11,000.

I think it's worth more than that though, it's in perfect condition and is really fast. Repairs are really expensive for this thing. Any minor maintenance costs upwards of $2,000, which is how much it was to get the alternator fixed.
