1. Alicia Says: so i was told my transfer case was bad but then i was told by someone else that it wasnt my transfer case it could be my senser here is whats wrong:

sometimes (not all the times) my back end sounds like it is winding up then popping as i turn or go up a hill in slow speed
it goes away for like a month then will come back sometimes when i put it in reverse it stops then i dont have to worry about it again any help in knowing what it could be that would be great thank you :)
2. MasTec 1970 Says: This is a fairly common problem in the Exped. The first and foremost thing is to make sure ALL of the tires are all the same size and approximately the same amount of tread wear! (this is very important on this vehicle), I recommend that you have the rear differential fluid serviced with a quality synthetic fluid. When using a synthetic gear lubricant, it is not necessary to install a friction modifier. If using a conventional gear lube, a friction modifier must be added or clutch chatter will occur. Have a friction modifier additive such as BG LS II added if you are using regular type gear oil. This problem happens in a limited slip differential when the fluid friction modifier has worn out!
3. =) Says: sounds more like your differential to me but if i were you id bring it to a dealer or good shop to have them check
4. Nicky Carter Says: check the gear dope some of them use trans, fluid
5. Spunkiee Says: I would get it check out thoroughly by a good, I mean a GOOD, mechanic.
Don't go back to the dealer, they might just tell you to buy another Ford !
Sound like a problem with the transfer case but make sure the GOOD mechanic ride with you.
Do this so that he knows whats the real problem, not just what you tell him.

Once I told the dealer's mechanic that my spark plugs were kinda loose and need to be tighten-up.
Know what he told me, you are not supposed to tighten them too much, Ford designed them this way. One month later, I had 3 blown spark plugs....they blew straight up and out of the holes....
Cost me almost $600 each to get them repaired + had to repair the ruptured fuel rails.
All I can tell you is that my Ford didn't turn me into a BBQ !

Get a GOOD & experience mechanic to look into the tranny...
Good Luck
You can update me once you find out what's wrong with it....TQ
