Putting this car in my name..?
(2011-04-10 14:30:19) 1. Says: Let me try to explain this in as few words as possible. My girl was sucked into a car scam, and she bought a Honda that is valued at $3500, but she got tricked into paying $12,000. Now she realizes her mistake, but legally there is nothing she can do. She still owes about $7000 in payments.
Anyway, she is going to buy a new car, and told me I can drive her Honda. She insists that I put it in my name, and she says that won't hold me responisble for the payments, just allows me to have ownership (as in, I can take it from an impound lot or prove that its mine, etc.). Is she telling the truth, or is she trying to scam me into taking over these whack payments? Is it possible to put a car (that still isn't paid off) into my name without being responsible for the payments?
Thanks,
xo~Tuff Luv~xo2. Says: Since there is a lien on the car held by a bank, they get to decide whose name the car is in. This is not her car to make that decision, it is the bank's car until it is fully paid off.
For you to take legal possession, you will have to refinance the car in your name. If you want to buy the car at the payoff price, go ahead. She will be off the deal and you will be on it.
I would not enter into any kind of strange agreement with someone you are dating. One big fight and everything blows up in your face. And why are you worried about getting a car out of impound? Why is your car in impound in the first place?
Stay out of this deal. Stay out of impound. Keep things a little separate between you and your hoochie mama. Better for everyone involved.3. Says: There is a lean on the car which means she does not have the title. Stay far away from this situation. If she "gives" the car to you to drive and the loan company legally repossesses it without physically finding the car.(since it would be at your house) you would then be in possession of a stolen vehicle. This whole thing has BAD written all over it.4. Says: well you and her were made for each other lets drink to a long and happy uhh car ownership oh yea, sorry you do not get a free car, in fact the people who actually own it, will want it back, as soon as she stops paying for it. Run as far from this car aspossible. Its going to be one big headach for you. Anyone who could do something like this, is not dealing with a full deck, so leave the car alone get on with your life5. Says: If she has had the car for six months you can be a co owner of the car, how ever if the finaince company says yes you will be responsible, for payments.6. Says: The car CANT be put in your name until her loan is pay off in full.
She is clueless.
You can drive it. You can be insured on it but you cant just take ownership without someone paying off the loan. Tag: Putting this car in my name..?
